COVID-19 cuts Ontario Northland services

Ontario Northland is temporarily reducing its bus and train services because of COVID-19.

Communications manager Renée Baker says you won’t be able to take the train between Cochrane and Moosonee as frequently.

“For the Polar Bear Express, we’ll be operating twice weekly as opposed to four times weekly,” she explains.

Bus service will continue to all communities, but some less frequently.

“So for example, North Bay to Toronto, we would have gone let’s say four times a day.  Now we’ve reduced that to once or twice a day.”

As for bus routes north of North Bay: “Most of the northern routes haven’t been affected,” says Baker.  “We were just visiting them once daily anyway.”

Ridership is already low with so many people staying put, and Baker says to encourage physical distancing, there will be a limit on the number of passengers per trip.
