The flags at the McIntyre Community Building will be at half-mast for the next three days, in honour of Dan “Tixie” Hannigan.
The iconic skate sharpener and Schumacher fixture has died.
Hannigan had a skate sharpening shop at The Mac for at least 25 years, after operating one for about the same number of years, a block up from the arena, on what was then First Avenue. He said he moved after the bypass went through, killing traffic through downtown Schumacher.
Speaking to My Timmins Now Dot Com for a profile on him last September, Tixie said he would sharpen skates “till the end”, and that he needed a hobby at his age of 77.
