TPS restricts access to Spruce St. S. building

Amid the threat of coronavirus, Timmins Police are temporarily changing the way they do day-to-day business.

Processing background checks and freedom of information requests, for example, will be done only by telephone or on the TPS web site, as part of restricting access to the station on Spruce Street South.

And communications coordinator Marc Depatie says if you call for an officer to go to a specific place, you’ll be asked several questions.

“If it’s an emergency, rest assured that the officers will attend in a timely fashion to respond to calls for service of an emergent nature,” he adds.

Front-line emergency services are available as usual.

“Should members of he public see any officers wearing personal protective equipment,” Depatie advises, “be it latex gloves or perhaps a mask, this in no way should inspire any form of anxiety amongst the community.  This is a preventative measure deemed necessary by the individual officer.”

Depatie says all of the temporary measures are designed to protect officers and the public from the virus.
