Two months out, the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation has decided to cancel its annual gala, which was set for May 23rd..
The event is one of the biggest fundraisers every year for the foundation. But executive director Jason Laneville says amid the COVID-19 pandemic, cancelling it is being proactive.
“As a non-profit organization, we are averse to risk and feel it would be irresponsible to move forward with the current unknowns,” he says.
“We’re at a tipping point right now where we have to make a lot of expenditures for our gala, and we’re kind of at the go-no go stage right now. If we go, we may not be able to get some of that money refunded.”
Laneville adds that the decision was mostly made on the Health Canada advice against large gatherings.
