United Way zeroes in on particular need of needy women

The United Way has declared Tampon Tuesday next week in Timmins. Regional manager Jennifer Gorman says the collection of menstruation products is underway until then.

“And it’s bringing awareness to the fact that menstruation is not a choice and neither is the need for the products,” Gorman states.  “Yet every year we hear stories of individuals who’ve gone without.  We’re campaigning by collecting and donating much needed menstrual products to help those individuals who are struggling.”

You can stage a collection at work, school or in your community group, or drop off your donation at Lemongrass on Third Avenue.  They’ll all be brought to Full Beard Brewing for an event on Tampon Tuesday night, then distributed by a local group called Pad Patrol.

“Pad Patrol distributes the products to individuals and community partners in need,” Gorman adds, “whether it’s a client at DSSAB, whether it’s somebody at Living Space, Pad Patrol has that distribution process down for our community.”
