A Timmins manufacturer has ben granted a loan of $606,000 from FedNor to expand its offerings to the mining industry.
Federal labour minister Filomena Tassi was in town Monday to announce the loan to DJB Mining Products and Services.
The minister says the loan will also help address the overall skills shortage in the region.
She notes that DJB started ten years ago with five employees, and now has 30 working four shifts.
“When people see the success of companies like this,” the minister comments, “I think that there’s a tendency to know that there’s security for jobs. So this is going to attract people.”
Tassi adds that the government is doing several things to encourage young people to train for a career in the trades.
FedNor is the government’s economic development agency for Northern Ontario.
