Family day at new permanent museum exhibit tomorrow

Your first chance to see the new permanent Timmins exhibit at the Timmins Museum comes tomorrow afternoon.

Director-curator Karen Bachmann says family day runs from 12:00pm until 5:00pm. and really does offer something for all generations of the family.

“You can try out the VR component and be underground in a 1912 mine,” she points out for the younger set.  “We’ll have some cake and some party favours and it’s just a good time to celebrate who we are and be proud of who we are in Timmins.”

Grandparents will get a kick out of seeing artifacts like Porcupine Pete, the mascot for the 50th anniversary back in 1962.

“Porcupine Pete is in there.  We’ve got recordings of Hilltop Rendezvous in the exhibition.  There’s a little bit for everybody to discover and it’s not just a series of dates and important people, it is very much the community and the people who we are.”

As always, there’s no charge for admission to the museum.
