Farmers Market steps up fundraising for pavilion

The Mountjoy Farmers Market is stepping up its fundraising effort for its new pavilion.

Market chairman Garnet Wilcox says construction at Participark will start as soon as the snow’s gone.

“We have our building permit, so everything has been approved as far as engineering and so forth,” he states. “And basically at this point, it’s just to go ahead and start with the construction.”

The cost to put up the pavilion is expected to be between $120,000 and $140,000.

“We have a total of 12 pillars.  They go for $5,000 a pillar,” Wilcox says.  Now we understand there’s a lot of small businesses.  They want to help out, but of course, $5,000 may be too far out of the range for them.”

Because of that, Wilcox is suggesting teaming up with another business and splitting the donation.

He adds that no donation is too small.  You can find out how to contribute on the market’s Facebook page.
