Winter highlight in East End coming up

The South Porcupine-Porcupine Winter Carnival is back the weekend of February 7th, 8th and 9th.

Organizing committee member Joanne Hagger-Perritt says while there are indoor activities, the carnival has a definite outdoor focus, with a wide range of games for kids and an adults-only contest.

“It’s called Outdoor Champion,” she explains, “and they’re going to have to do a number of tasks including shovelling snow, snowshoeing, splitting wood, piling wood, building a fire and making a kettle boil.”

Most of the events are in and around the scout hall on Legion Drive.

“The full schedule is not quite completed,” says Hagger-Perritt,  “but will be going up on the Moose Facebook page as well as there is a Facebook page for the carnival itself and it will be going up there.”

The committee’s hoping to get that accomplished by Monday.  Printed copies will be available at businesses in South Porcupine.

The carnival wraps on Sunday night with fireworks over Porcupine Lake.
