Odds are against you if you drive while impaired on New Year’s Eve

Timmins Police officers are pleased with statistics so far in the Festive RIDE program.

Well over 1,000 drivers have been stopped at roadside checks, and none have been charged.

Communications coordinator Marc Depatie calls that “encouraging”, but acknowledges that the concerted effort isn’t over yet.

“Our officers will be out monitoring area roadways throughout the evening leading well into the early morning hours of New Year’s Eve.  So the odds are against you,” he notes.

“So you must do the right thing, of course.  It’s a legal and ethical obligation but nonetheless we’re hopeful that the motoring public takes the time to plan now, make arrangements for a sober driver or some form of transportation that will get you home safely.”
