Workshop to outline programs through which to hire foreign workers

A one-day workshop in Timmins next Tuesday is intended to educate area employers about hiring foreign workers.

Organized by the Economic Development Corporation, it’s bringing in representatives of the federal government’s immigration department to do just that.

TEDC development consultant Madison Mizzau says it’s one potential way of filling the well-known labour shortage.

“We’re really learning as a community about the tools that are out there for employers,” she comments, “and we’re just trying to help employers and businesses really tap into the resources that are out there and this is one opportunity.”

“One of the mandatory requirements for a lot of these programs is a job,” Mizzau continues. “So these foreign nationals or foreign workers that are coming in, they need to have a job with an employer.  So it’s really benefitting our economy and benefitting the community, utilizing these tools that already exist through the federal government.”

More information on the workshop is available from the TEDC..  It runs from 9:00am until 4:00pm at the Dante Club.
