Rocktoberfest is taking a year off.
A disappointed John Olaveson, chairman of the Timmins Festivals and Events Committee… says the McIntyre Ballroom isn’t available, and it’s the only large venue in town at which event organizers run the bar and make that profit.
“There’s not really much wiggle room for us, because that (brings us) about seven-, eight grand in sales for that event,” Olaveson explains.
And that money is vital for TFEC to use for other events.
Olaveson has, however, booked the ballroom for next year and the year after.
“But with our fifth anniversary coming up, we were hoping we’d have something special going on to kick it off. Rocktoberfest was our inaugural fundraiser to get things started five years ago.”
Rock on the River will also be back next summer. Olaveson is already working on booking bands for it.
