TEDC is NOT using an outside group to solicit money, nor would it

You’re not alone, if you’ve received a suspicious phone call or voice mail message lately from an 800 number, very strong South Asian accident.

Timmins Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie says the service is aware of them.

“There are some groups that are falsely representing the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, seeking funds,” he adds.

The TEDC is adamant that it is conducting no such campaign, nor would it.

Depatie calls it “spurious, likely to be fraudulent”.

“The public is reminded to be very careful and to verify the legitimacy of any fundraising campaign and not to provide personal banking information over the phone.”

He adds that any similar activity that comes right to your dooris only legitimate if it’s backed up by a permit from City Hall.

“Timmins Police Service obviously remains committed to fraud prevention initiatives and endorses the healthy use of skepticism when any phone solicitation from a suspicious source is received.”
