Chamber president says province shows signs of caring about the North

The new president of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce says the provincial government is showing signs of caring about the North.

Val Venneri was reacting to the speech to the Chamber’s annual general meeting this week by economic development minister and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

“I’m pleased that he highlighted the differences between the North and the GTA,” Venneri tells My Timmins Now Dot Com, “and the cost of doing business and the regulatory burden which is an evergreen issue for businesses.”

Fedeli claimed during his address that he and two other Northern MPPs in the Ford cabinet make their voices heard.  And he said the rest of cabinet is starting to understand the north.

Venneri says he believes that, based on several grants announced to local businesses while Fedeli was in town.

“So yeah, there was money spread around so I am seeing it being worked up here.”

Venneri didn’t have a chance to go face-to-face with Fedeli, so didn’t get an update on restoring passenger rail service to the region.
