City to finish Hollinger Park project this fall; skating expected this winter

The City of Timmins is pushing ahead with finishing remedial work and restoration at Hollinger Park this fall, at a cost of $1.4-million.

The bonus is that none of the money is coming from general tax revenue.  Most of it will be the cash made by selling the Toyota cold weather testing facility, and the rest from reserves.

Mayor George Pirie says that’s the only way he would support doing the work now, before the next taxation year.

“Get the project done and again, demonstrate to the citizens that this is a council that gets things done in a fiscally responsible manner, which we’re doing.”

Interpaving Limited has the contract on this phase, and tells the city it’s ready to go right away.

“It will be a significant addition in helping us make Timmins ‘show better,’ if you will.  I think it will probably rival the original Hollinger Park from a beauty point of view,” the mayor comments.
