When school returns in the fall, Timmins High and Vocational School students will have a brand new, state-of-the-art athletic field and track to use.
You’ve probably noticed the last few days, that the turf has been laid down on the new field.
District School Board Ontario North East chairman Bob Brush says that’s not all that’s been done lately.
“The asphalt has been laid on the track, and that has to cure now for 30 days, and then they’re going to put down the rubberized surface,” he says. “So that’s a first for our board, having the rubberized surface there at Timmins High.
“Our anticipated complete date would be at the end of August this summer, so that for September (20)19 it would be ready to be used.”
Brush says the $3-million cost is worth it, because the entire community will use the new facility.
“That field’s always been used for soccer and other events. Our track and field meets are all held there, even for the elementary panel as well as the secondary.”
Brush is a former principal at TH. He says during his years there, staff only wished for such a facility.
