Mushkegowuk Health working to keep the homeless warm this winter

Taking care of the homeless is the major aim of a winter clothing drive by Mushkegowuk Health.

Patient advocate Shayanne Beach says it’s accepting donations of winter clothing between ten and four on November 2nd, 3rd and 4th at its office at 11 Elm St. N.

“Coats and jackets of all sizes, men’s and women’s as well;” says Beach, “sweaters, hoodies and long sleeves, new socks and undergarments, boots, hats, gloves and scarves.”

Beach goes on the say gently used blankets, sleeping bags and any cold weather gear will be accepted. It will be distributed around the middle of next month. Children’s items and leftover adult items will go to women’s shelters in the city.

The Mushkegowuk Fire Keepers will be helping with the distribution, which will include a warm meal.

“We’re planning on making some chili and bannock and then some sandwiches, beverages and then little bandaid kits, facial tissues, stuff like that.”

A concrete distribution date has yet to be set.
