Campbell dismayed at lack of provincial party for Canada Day

The Doug Ford government’s approach to Canada Day this year has Timmins city councillor Joe Campbell dismayed.

“They apparently are not hosting a Canada Day celebration.  I cannot believe it,” he told this week’s council meeting.

“That, to me, is abysmal and if it wasn’t that it would affect the relationship with the existing government, I’d ask for a nasty letter to be sent.”

The government says that instead of a celebration at Queen’s Park… it’s giving free admission to the first 500  people at each of several tourist attractions.  It claims that will cost $80,000 instead of the $400,000 it would cost for a poorly attended event at Queen’s Park. The closest attraction to Timmins is Science North in Sudbury.
