Musical start to the month at Timmins Public Library

Seniors Month gets off on a musical note, this Saturday afternoon at the Timmins Public Library main branch.

From 2:00pm until about 3:00pm, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra’s adult concert band will be performing.

Reference librarian Karina Douglas-Takayesu is herself a clarinetist in the band.

“The band was founded in 2018 and it’s basically aimed at anybody who might’ve played a musical instrument when they were in high school, set it aside and now have come back to it,” she explains.  We’ve actually had one person who picked up his instrument after 46 years.”

Douglas-Takayesu won’t say much about what music to expect.

“One of them is probably going to be a well-known Beatles song that I won’t disclose.  We have just some classical pieces, some sort of contemporary and maybe a movie theme or two.”

The event is free and even though it’s intended for seniors, there’s no way to prevent you from hearing it, if you just happen to be at the library at that time.
