EACOM mill celebrates its centennial this Friday

No one alive in Timmins remembers when there wasn’t a sawmill on the eastern bank of the Mattagami River, just north of the bridge.

And this Friday, what is now the EACOM mill celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Communications director Julie Paquet notes that many people will remember it as the McChesney mill.

“It transferred ownership a few times.  It survived floods and fires and now it’s performing well and we’re very happy to be celebrating well with the community.”

After a mill tour for dignitaries including Ontario natural resources minister John Yakabuski, the party is being thrown open to the public at Bozzer Park.

“Starting at 11:30 and for the balance of the day,” says Paquet, “there’ll be a nice community barbecue, some activities, a softball tournament.  It’s free, open to the public and it’s truly meant to celebrate the milestone.”
