Walking for awareness of workplace injury and tragedy

That group of walkers you see this coming Saturday morning between the McIntyre Arena and Gillies Lake will be drawing attention to workplace injuries and their effects on the workers and their families.

The organization Threads of Life is staging its sixth annual Steps for Life walk. “Threads of Life” is dedicated to workplace tragedy family support.

Caron Equipment health and safety manager Josh Theriault says registration is at 10:00am at the Schumacher Lions Club at the Mac, and the walk begins at 11:00am.

“We all leave there and we walk all the way to Gillies Lake,” says Theriault. “We do the loop around there and we walk back to the Lions Club.”

Theriault says the workplace injury issue is particularly important in this area, where workplace hazards are a fact of life.

“Timmins has various types of industries from construction, mining, to industrial sectors,” he points out. “It gives us a chance to all come together and take part in the awareness of workplace injuries.  Also to support the families that are in need.”
