“Porcupine Lake has subsided somewhat.” That hopeful statement is about the biggest piece of news in the latest update from the Timmins Flood Advisory Committee.

Mattagami Region Conservation Authority general manager David Vallier says despite the rain the past few days, below-freezing overnight temperatures are helping.

“The flood warnings are still in effect for Porcupine Lake and the Mattagami River,” Valliere adds to his good news about the lake subsiding.  “We don’t want people to become complacent and we want to make sure that everyone remains vigilant.

“We are keeping an eye on Kamiskotia Lake as well.  As of now, there’s no warning or watch being issued, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be by the weekend or early next week.”

Vallier notes that warmer weather on the weekend could speed up the melt.
