‘Open to local traffic’ means access to Cedar Meadows is maintained

UPDATE AT 11:30am, Wed., May 1: Norman St. has reopened.

You’ll notice that on the barricades put up on Norman Street at Lafleur Drive, there are signs that say “Open to local traffic”.

So you can still get to the Cedar Meadows resort.

Part owner Richard Lafleur says customers aren’t cancelling reservations, but they are calling.

“They are inquiring if the road is open,” he says, “and I tell everybody it is open but north end section.”

If Norman Street does flood, Lafleur says patrons will still have access.

“We have an emergency entrance. If it ever comes to that 1960 level flood, we have a third entrance.”

1960 is the year that the Mattagami River reached the highest level ever recorded.  1996 was the second highest, and blocked access to Cedar Meadows.  Lafleur says after that, he built the emergency entrance further west on Lafleur Drive.
