Canoeists’ predicament prompts OPP advisory

A pair of canoeists spent the night on the Tatachikapika River, just south of Timmins off Highway 144,  but appear none the worse for wear.

Provincial police say they received a report of the canoeists being overdue at about 9:30pm Sunday.

A ground search didn’t find them, but they were spotted by an OPP helicopter this morning.  They were taken to hospital as a precaution, and released.

With water running high and fast right now, police are encouraging outdoor enthusiasts to wait until it calms down before heading out.  You can put yourself and your rescuers at risk otherwise.
