Police urging extra caution in area of Ramada Inn

Pedestrian traffic is up a bit  along a less than ideal part of Riverside Drive this week, prompting an advisory from Timmins Police.

Most of the residents of Kashechewan who have come to Timmins to escape spring flooding are staying at the Ramada Inn. Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie notes that some of them are foregoing shuttle service, and are walking to get to nearby amenities.

“There is no sidewalk and the shoulders are fairly normal.”

So police are asking for extra vigilance and reduced speed, while the evacuees are staying in the area.  As Depatie notes, some of them are foregoing shuttle service that’s being provided.

“There are a number of restaurants in the area, as well as Walmart’s a big draw as well as the Timmins Square,” he points out. “A certain number of them, due to the proximity of these areas, they may choose to simply walk to these places.”
