Evening of Applause in Timmins Monday night

The international day to eliminate racial discrimination was last Thursday, and keeping with that is Monday’s fifth annual Evening of Applause.

Sylvie Lamothe of the local immigration partnership says students from all four local school boards will be recognized for their human rights work in their schools and communities.

And three women will be added to the City of Timmins Wall of Fame, at the main library branch.

“We are honouring Julie Béchard,” says Lamothe, “who is the founding executive director of le Centre Passerelle Pour les Femme du Nord de l’Ontario.  We’re recognizing her for her dedication to advocating for women’s rights in our community, and especially francophone women.”

Also added to the wall will be Project Love founders Nicole Gillard and Mel Cartier.

“If you haven’t heard of Project Love, this is an initiative that provides meals to community members who are facing hardship.”

Project Love operates out of Mountjoy United Church.

The event is at TH&VS.  It is open to the public and there is no admission charge.
