Community Park Association plans first public event

The fledgling Timmins Community Park Association is holding its first-ever public event on Sunday, March 17th.   From 12:00 until 4:00 that afternoon, it’s staging a free family skate at Roy Nicholson Park on Pine Street North.

There will be skating and boot hockey, a snow castle building contest, and snowshoe and snow plank races… to name a few things.  The list is below.

Media director Mark Rogers says this is partly because the group can’t get the Hollinger Park skating oval going until next year, and to let the public know what the association is all about.

“That’s exactly it” he says. “ They can find out what we plan to do in the community, no so much with the Hollinger Park, even though that’s our main focus, but we’ll be doing other events throughout the year in the community just to promote family fun and health and wellness.

“We wanted to so something this year because we are not able to get the Hollinger Park going this year, we’ll have it going next year and we wanted to do an event for the public.”

Rogers says the group plans various activities throughout the year, at the Hollinger and other city parks.
