FIVE IMPAIRED DRIVING-RELATED CHARGES LAID BY TPS DURING FESTIVE RIDE

The numbers are in, and the Timmins Police Service is disappointed with how this year’s Festive RIDE program turned out.

In its jurisdiction, the city police force laid five criminal charges related to impaired driving, between Nov. 26 and Jan. 2. That’s only one fewer than last year.

Traffic section Const. Darren McGaghran says “a small but persistent segment of drivers insist on indulging in behaviour that places themselves and others at risk.”

“Vigilance in regards to impaired driving is expected from the Timmins Police, but the driving population must do its part as well to make area roadways as safe as possible.”

Festive RIDE is a joint effort between city police, the OPP, the local chapter of MADD and the Porcupine Health Unit.

Statistics from the OPP have yet to be released.
