It could have cost you $65.00 more in 2019 for water and sewer service in Timmins, than it has in 2018. But on Tuesday night, council approved a hike in the combined rate of only $40.00.
At over $1,100.00 for the year, Mayor George Pirie noted that the increase comes in at 3.6%, and that’s higher than the rate of inflation.
What swayed some councillors to make the rate approval unanimous was a direction to administration to report next month on mitigation factors for seniors on fixed incomes who still live in their homes, and low-income families, to relieve the additional financial pressure on them.
