City Donates to the Youth Wellness Hub

A new initiative aimed at Timmins youth is getting an $80,000 donation.

Timmins City Council is donating the funds to the Youth Wellness Hub through its Grants to Volunteer Organization account. The Youth Wellness hub aims to bring activities and supports to youth and teens aged 12 to 25 in the evenings and on weekends. This is a travelling hub that will focus on what the youth want. This can include conversations around drugs and alcohol, mental health and what’s going on the community, as well as bring in councillors and supports to help youth in need.

The organization says it will be using the money to help get it up and running this fall. It says the goal is to launch the youth hub in September. It will run three days a week over 15-weeks. The hub says the plan is to reach 30 people per session, staying in touch with about 90 youth each week.

The city says as this is an unbudgeted expense, the account will go over budget. It says if savings in the city budget aren’t found to cover this cost, funds will be taken from the Tax Stabilization Fund to balance the budget.
