Police See Spike in Bank Card Frauds with “Tap” Feature

You are being warned about the “tap” feature on your debit and credit cards.

The Timmins Police Service says officers are getting an increasing number of reports of thefts and frauds being committed with that feature. The “tap” feature allows you to buy things by tapping your card on the terminal, without using a PIN number.

TPS says even though this is very convenient, it also makes it easier for someone to make purchases using a lost or stolen card. Police say if you want to disable the “tap” function, you have to call your bank.

TPS says it hopes that this information will reflect a decrease in this type of fraud.
