Local heroes are recognized with a provincial nomination.
The 9-1-1 dispatchers at the Timmins Police Service are being nominated for the 2018 Police Hero of the Year award. The Police Association of Ontario holds this award annually to recognize the great work being done by the police forces.
TPS Communications Coordinator Kate Cantin says a dispatcher is the first person people talk to when they call police, so this is a great nomination.
Cantin says the Timmins dispatch takes call for police, fire and ambulance. She says these are the people who keep residents calm in intense situations until first responders reach the scene.
The awards will be handed out during the Police Association of Ontario’s AGM in London this May.
