Living Space Looking for Funding for Warming Centre

A transition home is in the works for downtown Timmins.

Living Space is working with the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board and other partners to start a warming centre in town.

Organizers presented to city council Tuesday night saying Timmins is the only major centre in Northern Ontario without this kind of centre for the homeless. The group is asking council for $200,000 to renovate its newly purchased building and fund two years worth of operational costs related to vacancy loss mitigation and volunteer education and accreditation. The three-floor building at 25 Cedar North, will house 12 transition units, warming centre and a primary care space.

A vote on this request will be brought back to council at a future meeting.
