Plans to put in a crosswalk near Saint Mary’s Gardens in Timmins have been put on hold.
City Council had voted in favour of putting in a crosswalk with a flashing light at Pine Street and Fifth Avenue, but is having second thought after hearing concerns at the last council meeting. Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee Member Dan McKay says a crosswalk is dangerous for people who are disabled.
McKay says a three-way stop would ensure drivers yield to pedestrians. He adds this will also be less expensive than the original plan.
A report on this option will be brought back to city council.
