More streetlights are being installed around Timmins to address safety concerns over unlit areas

Timmins is taking action after safety concerns were raised about unlit areas after dark. City Engineer Luc Duval says RealTerm Energy was contracted to replace around 4,000 streetlights to LED lights. Since that work has finished, the city is hearing concerns about unlit areas that are potentially unsafe. Since the LED light is more concentrated, it has less of a spread, which means there are dark gaps between the poles.

Fifty-two lights are now going to be added, including in Schumacher, at the Mountjoy and Algonquin intersection, and the Cedar and Sixth area. Duval says RealTerm is still working to revise their contract, but they are hoping to have the additional lights installed by the end of November.
