Third annual Hearst Smash-Up Derby set for next month

The third edition of the Hearst Rotary Club and Hearst Fire Department Smash-Up Derby is set for Louisbourg Park on Saturday, Feb. 10. The gates open at 6 followed by racing at 7:30. Derby chairperson Dr. Marjolaine Talbot-Lemaire says the club’s fundraising event has quickly become a big hit.

“The first two editions were a very wild success that we had over 2,000 people attend the first year and close to 3,000 the second year,” she said. “People really look forward to this event so a lot of fun it brings families together.”

Talbot-Lemaire says on the track they’ve had 20 competitors each year participating.

“We do have lots of spaces still available because we do need to organize the heats and the rounds that we do ask people to register in advance,” she said. “Cars do have to be inspected as well so we don’t’ take any onsite registration.”

Money raised will remain in the community and used for Rotary Club and Fire Department projects.

There’s also a draw for a $10,000 cash prize. All money raised from the event will stay locally for community projects. For further information, visit the Hearst Rotary Club’s Facebook page.
