OPP accepting applications for cadet program

The Ontario Provincial Police are now accepting applications for its cadet program. Only six positions will be chosen that covers the North East Region from Parry Sound through to Wawa and Hornepayne and the far north.

Media Relations and Community Services Officer Kyler Brouwer says the cadets are civilians who help officers in a number of areas.

“It’s a position that assists our officers on the road with kind of our paperwork,” he said. “There is a lot of paperwork to do with policing. They can ride along and help with foot patrol, crowd control like marine duty. There’s lots of different things.”

Brouwer says a cadet position might lead into other opportunities.

“Not only is it a great way to discover if this is something you would be interest in as a full-time officer, but it’s a great foot in the door to make a few connections, and to get some good experience that could bolster an application for an officer,” he added.

For further information visit www.opp.ca and applications are being accepted until Tuesday, Jan. 23.
