City Public Works Dept. takes on spring clean-up, now ‘bulk items collection program’

What was spring clean-up in Timmins is now the bulk items collection program.

Council has accepted a new plan from public works director Ken Krcel, after contractor tenders for spring clean-up came in seven times over budget.

Krcel told council the new program is all done in-house, without delaying summer maintenance and infrastructure work.

Pick-up will begin after the current period of a waived tipping fee at the Deloro landfill site.

“We would hope that if the free tipping week goes as planned, there wouldn’t be that much to pick up over the next six or seven weeks,” said Krcel.

He added that it would allow workers to be reassigned sooner to their regular jobs.

“There’s no shortage of work. If the pick-up is lighter, we finish up an area early, we can get them back into patching potholes or whatever else.”

The city is divided into five areas for the pick-up.  The schedule follows:

Items will be collected by Public Works throughout the scheduled week. Items must be at the curb prior to the scheduled date listed below, however no more than two (2) days prior to their collection day.

Schumacher

Week of June 26

All of Schumacher through Gold Centre and all of the areas on and off of Goldmine Road ( Carium Rd, Delnite, MacDonald Hill, Buffalo Ankerite)

Timmins

Week of July 3

All areas North of Algonquin Blvd. and South of Jubilee & Ross, Starting at Lakeshore Rd. and working westward to the Mattagami River.

Week of July 10

All areas South of Algonquin Blvd, starting at Mattagami River, working Eastward toward Railway Street, including Dalton Rd up until the end of the asphalt).

Week of July 17

All areas North of Ross & Jubilee, starting at Airport Road  including rural areas and working Eastward to Hwy. 655

Mountjoy

Week of July 24, west of Mattagami River, and Kamiskotia Lake area.

South Porcupine & Porcupine

Week of July 31, starting on Legion Drive heading easterly including South, Porcupine, Porcupine, Connaught Hill and West of the traffic 3 lights on Highway 101 East and Ferguson/ Bristol Road.

Porcupine and Connaught

Week of August 7, starting at the traffic lights for Highway 101 East and, Ferguson/ Bristol Road, heading easterly through Porcupine, Bob’ s Lake and Connaught
