Young female millwright apprentice to discuss her career at Chamber event

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce begins a new series of presentations on Monday night called “Tap Into”.

In conjunction with Women in Mining Timmins, the inaugural session features Gabrièle Larocque, a 23-year-old millwright apprentice at Lake Shore Gold’s Bell Creek Mill.

Her interest in mining began during a summer job at Magris Talc. It was her first time inside a mill.

“That’s where I started asking questions and being really intrigued,” she says, “and that’s where I met my first millwright in person and (they) really showed me the ropes and that’s where it all started to pique an interest for me.”

Larocque will discuss her journey and how the apprentice system works.

“Hopefully it’s all encouraging and it sticks with some people and lets them know it’s okay to have a career change if you’re doubting yourself.”

You can hear more from Larocque on her experience and some impressive accomplishments she’s already made in the audio link below.

Tap Into Apprenticeships happens Monday at 7:00pm at Full Beard Brewing.
