UPDATE VIA NEWS RELEASE AT 8:20pm: A man has been arrested in that home that was the focus of this evening’s containment in Schumacher, but police will not confirm until tomorrow who he is, for which incident he is a suspect, or the criminal charges against him.
The containment has been lifted, except for the home where the arrest took place. Timmins Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie says this is standard police investigative practice.
He also calls the cooperation of the people living in the containment area “exemplary.”

UPDATE at 7:45pm: Situation remains the same. My Timmins Now Dot Com has added photos. As well as the roadblocks on Father Costello Dr. at Batocchio and Aura Lake Streets, no one is being allowed to use Grant St. from Father Costello Dr. Coincidentally, that is the intersection where the Circle K store that was robbed early Thursday is situated. A few people are gathered, including a group on a balcony and the roof of the building on the southwest corner of Grant and Father Costello.
UPDATE AT 6:20pm: From Timmins Police Service: “One residence is the central focal point.
All immediate neighbours have been evacuated for safety concerns linked to the containment situation.”
The Timmins Police Service emergency response team has been deployed to Schumacher this evening.
A news release says a residential area will be restricted to public access, while criminal investigators try to confirm “the current whereabouts of a person of interest allegedly involved in recent criminal acts in the Timmins area.” The exact boundaries of the containment area have yet to be determined, and will be made public shortly.
