‘That Canadian guy’ brings his wit North

The latest trend in entertainment in Northeastern Ontario – stand-up comedy – brings “That Canadian Guy” Glen Foster to Cochrane tomorrow (Friday) night, and to Timmins Saturday night.

Foster has been doing the “Canadian guy” thing for just over 20 years, and stand-up in general for 35 years.

“Wanted to meet girls, couldn’t play guitar” was his initial motivation.

Foster says he’s always been a comedy fan, as was his dad, who was a bit of a joker himself.

“Then all of a sudden shortly after high school I realized hey, you know, you can actually go and do this,” Foster recounts. “There was a comedy club opening up in Toronto and it was the early days, of course, much easier to get stage time so, uh, yeah.”

He says the topics he discusses are all over the place.

“I used to be a lot more political, news oriented but I just think there’s too much of that over the last little while, particularly with the orange man down below.  So I kind of moved away from that.  It’s more personal, anecdotal, a little off the wall-ish kind of thing.”

Glen Foster will perform at the Empire Theatre in Cochrane, and the Porcupine Dante Club in Timmins.
