It’s a good time to find out more about heart health and strokes

June is heart and stroke awareness month, and the hospital is raising awareness. The Timmins and District Hospital is a district stroke centre in the northeast, which means it has services available around the clock.

The hospital hasĀ 24/7 on-call physician group for Telestroke and tPA delivery, an Integrated Stroke Unit, some outpatient therapy services and Secondary Stroke Prevention Clinic.

Health officials sayĀ there 62,000 strokes in Canada every year, and 80 per cent of of people survive. Age is the biggest risk factor, butĀ stroke in younger people is on the rise.

You can find out more about the TADH Stroke Program at the hospital this week. There is an information booth set up in the main promenade.
