Helmet safety a priority for the summer

The Timmins Police are hosting their annual Bike Rodeo to promote helmet safety. Yesterday’s event turned the Mountjoy Arena into an obstacle course for grade fours to learn about hand signals, yielding, and road safety. Constable Rick Lemieux says they want kids to know the rules as the summer begins.

“We want to make sure that they do follow the rules of the road, and they do wear their helmets,” says Lemieux. “It’s basically to keep them safe. To give them that information at the beginning of the summer is crucial for them to remember it.”

If the police see kids or parents riding with a helmet on, they will be giving out tickets for a chance for kids to win a free bike, and passes for free laser tag. Parents could win a car detailing and a free Bar-Be-Que. Sponsoring the Helmets On campaign is James Used Toyota, and Neo Laser Tag.
