Voter turnout highest since 2000

Just over half of qualified Timmins voters participated in Monday’s municipal election. At 52.7%, that’s the highest participation rate since the election in 2000.

The ward system was the topic of the only question asked of voters. 54.6% said yes to whether they support changing the system that elects one councillor in each of Wards 1 to 4, and four in Ward 5, the former Town of Timmins.

It’s now up to the new council to decide whether to proceed.
