Mayoral debate being held Thursday

A debate of candidates running to be mayor of Timmins in the October 26th election is this Thursday.

It’s being organized by Orest Lawryniw and Norm Dwyer. Lawryniw refers to them as  impartial and non-partisan.

The event runs from7:00 until 9:00pm in the auditorium at Ecole Secondaire Catholique Thériault.

Lawryniw is the moderator.

“The ground rules are going to be respect for candidates, number 1,” he emphasizes. “We want them to have their two-minute platform presentation and three minutes rebuttal. And then we do have some questions that have been submitted by the general public over the internet that we will be asking. We’ve chosen the best questions we have.”

Chris McNeil is the only one of the six candidates not attending.

“This is the time to find out what your candidate is standing for and make sure that you vote for your candidate on election day,” Lawryniw states. “That’s when you can voice your agreement with the candidate that you chose.”

Some free tickets might still be available at Casa Bliss on Third Ave.

Advance online voting begins Wednesday. There will also be kiosks at both city libraries and the museum.
