Witches Walk a fun way to draw attention to serious issues

You can get an early tune-up on Halloween this Friday morning at the Witches Walk through downtown Timmins.

For the fourth time in five years, Mattagami First Nation Chief Jennifer Constant is organizing the event to raise money for the Timmins and Area Women in Crisis Centre.

If you don’t want to pay the ten-dollar registration fee, you’re asked to bring a non-perishable item for the Timmins Food Bank.

Constant says this time of year often focuses on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and some people don’t know how they can help.

“Certainly, being an ally and attending different events is amazing,” she says, “but I figured I could do something that helps people so something very productive for organizations that actually help with those different issues.”

Participants are encouraged to dress up like witches and warlocks for a fun time dedicated to a serious set of issues.

“The money does go to help all women,” Constant reiterates, “but I use it as a platform to be able to raise awareness on the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls as well as two-spirit people.”

The walk starts at 11:00am at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre. Here’s a link to register on Eventbrite.
