Principals and Vice-Principals being recognized for their work during work-to-rule

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario is now a month into its work-to-rule job action. The District School Board Ontario North East held a meeting recognizing principals and vice-principals stepping up their responsibilities during the strike action.

Director of Education at the ONE, Linda Knight says principals are often filling roles completely outside of their duties. She says they are doing everything from dumping garbage cans to sweeping floors, because the main hallways are the responsibility of the custodians.

Some of the strike action measures by teachers in include not filling in for absent teachers, not taking on additional students if a class collapses and no additional duties during preparation time. The ETFO has been without a contract for over a year and Knight says she’s not sure when the province will return to the table.
