Multicultural Festival adds second day

For its 52nd year, the Timmins Multicultural Festival is adding a second day.

The traditional festival is set for Sunday, May 26th in the arena at the Mac.  Timmins Multicultural Society president Marnie Lapierre says on the afternoon before that, there’s an event in the auditorium. Because the floor of the arena gets so busy, this presentation format features four or five ethnic groups teaching about their background and customs.

“It’s kind of exciting to be able to offer this,” she remarks, “to create a bridge of acceptance, understanding and excitement.”

New to this year’s show, says Lapierre, are African countries bringing in a dance group.

“They have their smaller costume performance and then they have the large ones. I’m recommending everybody to stick around for the entire day, because it’s going to be amazing.”

Also new is a man who plays the Alpen horn – think about the Ricola cough drop commercial – representing the eight European countries that are spanned by the Alps.

There are many more details right here.
