The clocks in the Millennium Tower at Hollinger Park were hardly ever right. So after 25 years, they’re gone.
The city’s manager of facilities and recreation, Lynne Grenon says their time had come.
We weren’t able to get any more parts for the clock,” Grenon explains. “They were impossible to replace or to even replace the whole clock itself.”
The tower was a Y2K project.
“The Rotary Club and Club Richelieu were the people who spearheaded the project when it first started,” says Grenon. “We reached out to them and explained the situation how we couldn’t replace the clock or the parts for it and asked if it was okay if we removed it and replace it with their logos.”
The two groups agreed and worked it out between each other that instead, a Rotary logo now faces Algonquin Boulevard and the Richelieu logo faces the park.
