Organization dedicated to ‘elevating women in trades and technology’ launches

An organization launched in Timmins today is focused on elevating women in trades and technology.

Women in Trades & Tech Timmins (WITT Timmins) was introduced at a general meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. Co-chair Ashley Richards-Gagnon told the meeting that its mission is being a welcoming, inclusive network supporting women in trades and tech careers.

“Whether you’re a licenced electrician, a greenhouse technician, a welder, a hairstylist or working in digital systems, you have a place here,” she said. “We want to build a culture where mentorship, learning, advocacy and community go hand in hand.”

Audio of her entire speech is posted at the end of this story.  In it, Richards-Gagnon outlines the mandate of the group.

“It’s about more than just professional development. It’s about creating a culture of belonging and opening more doors for women and gender diverse individuals across every sector.”

Women in Trades & Tech has a $25.00 lifetime membership fee. Richards-Gagnon says men are welcome to act as allies.
